VAURADDEANCHO IXTT

Mons. Herculano Gonsalves It is worthy of high praise the initiative which the illustrious parish of Calangute has given effect to, by dedicating on the 8th of the current month, a heartfelt homage to this worthy priest who honours our land and can be pointed out as a perfect example to our clergy. Life of 80 plus years, wholly consumed in the benefit of mankind, with the sole aim in God and wellbeing of the souls. Persons like Mons. Herculano, humble, charitable, self-sacrificing, mortified, a treasury of all sacerdotal virtues, do not belong to the limited region which was directly benefited by his activity alone, but, they belong to all, to the whole of the catholic community of which he is a member, and, to whoever gives prestige to. After a solemn mass, celebrated by three of the most illustrious priests of the parish, for the prosperities of the honoured, the singing part being in the charge of the sweet choir of the girls of ‘Acção Católica’ (Catholic Action), there was a program on the forecourt of the Church, presided over by Mr. Dr. Jaime Rangel, illustrious president of the Municipal Council of Bardez. Besides the long presidential speech, also spoke on the occasion, elevating the merits of Mons. Herculano, the Most Reverend Canon João Paulo de Souza, Dr. Silva Pereira, Provedor de Assistência Pública (Provider of Public Assistance) who presented an important sum of 5,000 rupees, subsidy of assistance, of the current year, to the Orphanage of Stº Aleixo (St. Alex), and which shall be continued by more years, and, finally, Dr. Eduardo Egipsy de Souza, in concanim, whose speech, beautiful in the format and in the concepts as well, we give at another place. Mr. Pinto, treasurer of the Committee, offered to the honoured, a rich purse in cash, on behalf of the parish. The Society of Pilar associated itself to the homage, in the persons of the R. R. Messrs. Fr. Conceição Rodrigues and Bro. Henrique de Souza.
